Adhesion Synechiae of the Glans: Surgical Reconstruction

Adhesion synechiae of the glans are a medical condition characterized by abnormal adherence between the glans and the foreskin. This issue may arise due to improperly performed circumcision or as a result of inflammatory and scarring processes. In some cases, these adhesions are further complicated by the formation of keloids, hypertrophic scars that cause both functional and aesthetic discomfort.

At Sapienza University of Rome, Professor Gabriele Antonini, a surgeon specialized in urology and andrology, has developed an innovative approach to address adhesion synechiae and their related complications. His protocol involves the reconstruction of the balanopreputial sulcus and a new circumcision performed with advanced techniques to minimize recurrences and ensure optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes.

The surgical process includes the careful removal of synechiae while preserving healthy tissues. The balanopreputial sulcus is then reconstructed using microsurgical techniques to restore natural anatomy. In cases involving keloids, the procedure may be combined with scar tissue removal and the application of adjuvant therapies to prevent new scar formation.
