Glans Anchoring

The anchoring to the glans represents an advanced surgical technique applied in the context of hydraulic penile prostheses, especially in cases of distal pseudo-extrusion. This approach has proven to be essential in ensuring optimal prosthesis stability, improving post-operative outcomes, and reducing long-term complications. During the XXXII National Congress of the Italian Society of Andrology (SIA), held in Stresa at the Hotel Regina Palace from May 28 to 31, 2016, an innovative procedure for glans anchoring was presented by Professor Gabriele Antonini, an internationally renowned specialist in urology and andrological surgery, assisted by his team comprising de Berardinis, Cristini, Busetto, Gentile, and Perito.

The technique involves precise anchoring of the apex of the hydraulic penile prosthesis directly to the glans. This procedure is particularly indicated in cases where distal pseudo-extrusion occurs, a rare but significant complication that can arise from factors such as tissue scarring or initial placement errors of the prosthesis. The primary goal of this intervention is to restore prosthetic functionality while ensuring optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes for the patient.

The procedure showcased during the congress was performed on a patient with a complex clinical history marked by prosthetic stability issues. The operation’s success was made possible by using state-of-the-art materials and the surgical precision of the team. Beyond resolving pseudo-extrusion, this technique offers a lasting solution, significantly improving the quality of life for patients.
