Professor Gabriele Antonini, a leading expert in penile prosthetic surgery, recently performed a surgical procedure on a 64-year-old patient. The patient, who had previously undergone a radical prostatectomy and nephrectomy using advanced robotic techniques, expressed a strong desire to preserve his sexual function. To achieve this, he opted for the implantation of a three-component hydraulic penile prosthesis.
The procedure was carried out using the infrapubic technique combined with penoscrotal approaches. This type of prosthesis is considered the gold standard for patients with severe erectile dysfunction, as it provides a natural aesthetic result and high satisfaction for both the patient and their partner. The three-component prosthesis consists of two cylinders placed in the corpora cavernosa, a pump located in the scrotum, and a reservoir situated in the abdomen, all connected by thin tubing. This system allows the patient to achieve a fully controllable and reversible erection.
Thanks to the infrapubic technique, operating times and the risk of complications were minimized. The combination with the penoscrotal approach facilitated the insertion of the pump into the scrotum, enhancing post-operative comfort. Following the surgery, the patient reported a positive post-operative recovery without complications.
